Sirius Canada Finally Getting Stern

Posted under Sirius Satellite News on Wednesday 1 February 2006

Sirius Canada is finally getting Howard Stern. He will debut Monday on the “Howard One” channel.

There was some concern that Stern wouldn’t be allowed to broadcast on Sirius satellite radio because the CBSC(Canadian Broadcast Standards Council) found that his program was too foul.

It’s believed that many Canadians actually purchased US based satellite radio receivers to listen to the broadcast of Howard Stern, which bipasses the CBSC’s initial ruling anyway.

However, this will be good for Sirius as i’m sure there were many Canadians who either already had Sirius and just couldn’t listen to Howard Stern or there were some people holding out for Stern to be broadcast on Sirius radio in Canada.

Satellite Radio Listener’s Online Shopping Habits

Posted under XM Satellite News, Sirius Satellite News on Sunday 22 January 2006

Interesting story about satellite radio listeners and what their habits are. The study, performed by comScore networks, measures the online behavior of both Sirius satellite radio and XM satellite radio listeners.

The study shows that Sirius radio listeners shop for more higher-end goods and are 40% more likely to visit Jewelry or Luxary good sites than the average online user. Sirius listeners are also 22% more likely to visit online trading sites, such as ebay. Sirius listeners are also 16 percent more like to visit sports sites than the average internet user, this most likely comes from Sirius’ partnership with the NFL.

XM radio listeners are 89% more likely to visit car rental sites and 45% more likely to visit airline sites than the average internet user.

Kind of an odd story, but interesting(to me) nonetheless.

Bubba The Love Sponge on Sirius Radio

Posted under Sirius Satellite News on Thursday 19 January 2006

I was unaware of this until yesterday, and I thought it might be of some interest to you guys.

Bubba the Love Sponge was the morning show in Tampa, FL a couple years ago and after being knocked off the air due to some FCC troubles has now found a new home on Sirius radio. Howard Stern brought Bubba onboard to do an afternoon radio show from 4-8 PM on Howard 101.

This show was downright hilarious and I imagine it probably still is. From what I hear, everyone from the original cast is back except Ned, who they are trying to get back.
