XM Delphi SkyFi2
CNET has this review of the Delphi XM SkyFi2. It received a 7.2 out of 10 rating from the editor, which translates to “very good.”

To actually hear some XM radio with the SkyFi2 you will need either the home or car adapter kits or one of the two boombox kits - one that has a cd player and one that doesn’t.

The SkyFi2 is a tiny little guy, coming in at just 4.6″ x 2.9″ x 1.25″(HWD) and weighing only 5.2 ounces. The best new feature of the Delphi SkyFi2 is the 30 minute buffer, which is similar to Sirius’ Sportster Replay, in which you can rewind 30 minutes worth to hear something you might have missed or just replay something.

They SkyFi2 also has a built in FM modulator that let’s you transmit to any unused FM radio station. The SkyFi2 also has a higher volume level over the original SkyFi.

Sirius S50 Review at CNET

Sirius S50
CNET comes through with this review of the Sirius S50, one of the latest products out from Sirius radio. The editor only gave it a 6.7 out of 10 rating, which came out to be “Good.” This is a bit suprising due to all the hype that surrounded this new device.

The S50 has to be docked to receive live satellite radio. While it is connected to a docking station you can record the satellite feed - up to 1 GB worth - and listen to it later. The S50 also doubles as an MP3 and WMA file player.

Pros: Can connect to your PC through a USB connection for transfering MP3 and WMA files. Clicking the heart icon when a song is on will store the artist and title info and will also store the track itself.

The editor’s gripes: The S50 comes bundled with a car docking kit, if you want the home docking kit then it’s an additional $100. Neither dock has numbered buttons for manually entering stations, you have to scroll through a list. Battery life is lacking - it claims to get 6 hours of life but the editor only managed 4 hours and 15 minutes of battery life.

Sirius Sportster Replay
CNET has this review of the Sirius Sportster Replay. No editor rating is given, but based on 9 user ratings the Sportster Replay gets an excellent rating of 8.6 out of 10.

Basic Pros: You get a 44 minute buffer of content that you can rewind in case you missed something or just want to hear something again. Also includes an FM modulator for broadcasting your satellite radio signal to an unused FM station to listen in your car.

Basic Cons: While portable, it’s not as portable as the new Sirius S50 that plays mp3s.

Sirius Audiovox SIRPNP2 Review at CNET

Posted under Sirius Satellite Reviews on Tuesday 27 December 2005

Sirius Audiovox SIRPNP2
CNET reviewed the Audiovox SIRPNP2 for Sirius satellite radio and gave it a 5.4 out of 10 rating. 5.4 comes out to be “average.”

The biggest downfall of the SIRPNP2 is that you have to use it in a docking kit, either a SIRCK1 or SIRCK2 car kit, or an SIRHK1 home kit. This, of course, means more cash to shell out.

Or, you also have the Audiovox SIRBB1 as an option, which is a boombox docking cradle that you slip the SIRPNP2 into and you get to hear your Sirius radio through your boombox speakers.

There’s really nothing special about the SIRPNP2 and honestly, there are probably better options out there for the money.

Audiovox Portable Boombox SIRBB1 Review at CNET

Posted under Sirius Satellite Reviews on Tuesday 27 December 2005

Audiovox Portable Boombox SIRBB1
The CNET editor’s review of the Audiovox Portable Boombox SIRBB1 left it with a 5 out of 10 rating which basically means it was average.

This boombox requires the Audiovox SIRPNP2 Sirius receiver body to work. Basically this docking cradle comes with two four inch speakers - one on each side, a removable antenna, and an auxillary input for connecting other devices.

The Audiovox SIRBB1 requires eight D-Cell batteries and winds up weighing about 8 pounds total. Battery life is quite poor as it sucked up the editor’s batteries in less than three hours.

Gripes from the editor: no cd player, no am/fm tuner, no tone controls and a very awkward carrying handle.
